Once Upon a Snowy Day
Written by Tom

Once upon a snowy day. A few days ago me and Sam had a day off school because of snow. It was a bright sunny day, perfect for fishing we though, apart from the fact we knew we wouldn't catch anything because of the cold, bitter weather cooling the sea. It was a very bad decision and ofcourse the worst day of fishing we will proberly ever go to. But also the funniest!

We first sat there with our rods in the water, talking and mucking about. We did this for around three hours untill we started getting slightly bored after catching just lumps of seaweed. In that time Sam had lost his own weight and then he borrowed one of mine. Then he lost mine. We then decided to have a casting compettion too see who could cast out there rod farthest into the water. Then I decided too try float fishing. I tied a loose knot around my weight, cast it out, reeled it in too find yet another one of my weights had been lost. Twice that day I cast my rod out and the whole lot snapped off! (hook, bait, weight).

We decided to retire home, knowing we wouldn't catch even a baby mackerel. But, after we unlined our rods, we were pretending to cast really fast and made a whip sound with our rods. Sam tried this for the first time and half his rod flung into the water! 'Nice one!', some Greece gump shouted. We were there for an hour afterwards trying to hook it out with my rod. But we just ended up loosing more weights and hooks. In the end it sank.

Finally, after a great day of fishing, we went home and had a warm bath.

Epic Journey
In the summer some time we are hoping to go on an epic journey cross-country. We hope to start somewhere in the woods, walk to the nearest lake/river, set up camp and spend the night there and ofcourse fish. Then to continue out our journey after spending a days fishing there. Photos, weights and measurements will be recorded.

We will face a number of problems. For example the fact that almost every lake and river is owned. Also, if we find any lakes it is highly likely there will be no fish in it. Then well have too go river fishing.

Another option is venturing out too Red Cliffe Point and starting there. Then we can walk along the cliffs every day and fish at the beach. We can wander of too find a river if we feel like it, but we just want too keep going and going, taking & cooking our own food and camping in a tent up in the hills. This is legal and there will be few people, also, well have a big chance of catching nice big fish. Mabye even a 10lb bass!

But whatever happens, were going too go somewhere in the open and country and do something to do with fishing. We just need too look at our options and study them so were clear on all laws. But at the end of the day, if there is a lake or a river in the middle of know where, and were not aloud too fish there, whos going too see?

So, where do we fish in Weymouth?

Well to be honest there are a fair few good places! Chesil Beach is good in the summer, Red Cliffe Point is good for a nice quite day of fishing, the Stone Pier is ok but all your ever likely too catch is small mackerel. Portland Bill is ok, but its rough sea and fairly noisy and windy. As you can see, there are advantages and disadvantages of each place we could fish within Weymouth. So depending on the mood and also the weather determines where we fish. Here is a link too a website that suggests some good places in Weymouth & Portland too fish.
